Children and Youth Centre is a church project managed by University of Dar es Salaam Chapel under a Joint Chapel Committee (JCC)
JCC is an organ formed in order to link the Christian communities based on The Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) and Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT)
JCC intends to construct a church centre to cater for Children and Youths activities, Sunday School activities, seminars, meetings for the Spiritual and social upkeep of the University of Dar es Salaam, Ardhi University, Water Resources Institute and the surrounding communities
The space allocated for the project comprises a sloping ground behind the existing chapel building. To maximise on the use of the available space for current and future needs, the concept adopted includes vertical development with a basement(lower ground) level, ground and first floor levels. The architectural outlook has been synchronised to match some of the existing architectural features of the existing chapel. The spaces are organised around a courtyard with the view of creating natural airflow through stack effect. To maximise the use of space the courtyard space is to be covered with a light glass covered roof to allow in light but stop rain from entering.
The floor layouts in design show only the main spaces with the understanding that these shall be partitioned with light dry partitions according to specific needs of TEC and CCT which shall be revealed as the project progresses.
